Confucius Institutes Scholarship of LZU (2018) 

For the purpose of cultivating qualified Chinese language teachers and facilitating the promotion of Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) launches “Confucius Institute Scholarship” (CIS) to support outstanding students, scholars and currently employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms as well as some HSK test centers (hereinafter to be collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) to study in Chinese universities and colleges (hereinafter referred to as “host institutions”). 

ELIGIBILITY 

All applicants shall be: 

● Non-Chinese citizens 

●In good physical and mental condition well performed both academically and behaviorally 

●Aspired to take future careers on the teaching or international promotion of Chinese language 

●Between the age of 16-35 on September 1st, 2018. Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall not exceed the age limit of 45, while undergraduate students shall not exceed the age limit of 25. 

SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) 

Commences September 2018 and provides scholarship for maximum two academic years. 

Applicants shall be Bachelor degree holders and shall not exceed the age limit of 35. 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 

Applicants who are able to provide notarized document of the employment agreement or related proofs upon completing study in China are preferred. 

Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) 

Commences September 2018 and provides scholarship for maximum four academic years. 

Applicants must have graduated with a high school diploma and between the ages of 16-25 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 

One-Academic-Year Study 

Commences September 2018, and provides scholarship for maximum 11 months. 

Between the age of 16-25 

▲International students currently studying in China are not eligible. 

●TCSOL 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 in HSK test (Level 3), while HSKK test score required. 

●Chinese Language and Literature/Chinese History/Chinese Philosophy 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 4) and 60 in HSKK test (Intermediate Level). 

●Chinese Language Study 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK test (Level 3). 

One-Semester Study 

Commences either in September 2018 or March 2019, and provides scholarship of maximum 5 months. 

Between the age of 16-25 

▲Applicants with holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible. 

●TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy 

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK test (Level 3), while HSKK test score required. 

●Tai Chi Culture 

HSK test score required. 

Four-Week Study 

Commences either on July or December of 2018 and provides a four-week scholarship. 

Between the age of 16-25. 

▲Applicants with holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible. 

●Special Four-week Program 

HSK test score are required. organized and applied by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants each group. 

●Tai Chi Culture 

HSK test score required. 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES 

Online registration is available from March 1st, 2018 on the website of Confucius Institute Scholarship. Applicants need go to the website at http://cis.chinese.cn apply for CIS ID, complete and submit the application form online, and attach with application materials in accordance with requirements. Applicants should choose Lanzhou University (LZU) from host institutions and apply for a major or program. 

After submitting, please pay attention to the application process. Eligibility of applicants are reviewed by LZU, and nominations are submitted to the Headquarters. 

Hanban will complete the scholarship review and notify the result of successful applicants two months before enrollment of the admitted students. 

Scholarship winners need to confirm with LZU to go through the procedures of studying in china and register at LZU the designated date and time as per the admission letter. 

After confirming with the successful applicants, LZU will post “Admission Notice”, “Visa Application Form for Foreigners to Study in China” (JW202 Form) and other relevant documents to the applicants or recommending institutions. 

THE APPLICATION DEADLINES 

April 10th for those commencing in July 

June 10th for those commencing in September 

September 10th for those commencing in December 

December 10th for those commencing in March 2019 

▲Chinese Bridge winners who have been awarded the 2018 “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate” shall log onto the website of scholarship at http://cis.chinese.cn and submit documents to relevant host institutions upon presentation of their CIS certificates. Please contact chinesebridge@hanban.org for inquiry. 

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS REQUIRED 

All application documents required shall be in Chinese or English and scanned to submit on line. 

For All Applicants 

● A scanned copy of passport photo page. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China. 

● A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity). 

● An recommendation letter by the head of the recommending institution 

● Physical Examination Record for Foreigners. 

▲ Applicants currently worked as Chinese language teachers shall provide the proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employing institution 

Only For Degree Program (Undergraduate and Graduate) Applicants 

● A certification of the highest education diploma or degree and an official transcript (must be original documents or notarized copies) or proof of expected graduation, 

● Applicants of the MTCSOL Students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide a notarized employment agreement with teaching institutions are preferred. 

CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE AND CRITERIA 

Scholarship Coverage 

The Confucius Institute Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (four-week study students are excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses. 

Scholarship Criteria 

Living allowance is granted by host institution on a monthly basis. The monthly allowance for BTCSOL, one-academic-year program and one-semester program is 2,500 CNY /person, for MTCSOL program is 3,000 CNY/ person. 

ADMISSION AND CONSULTATION SERVICES 

   Recommending institution and host institution are responsible for issuing local enrollment guide and provide consulting, recommending and registering services accordance with procedure. 

   LZU is the HSK test center of Hanban, it can be functioned as a Confucius Institute Scholarship recommendation agency. Please contact the test center office: scholarship@lzu.edu.cn 

OTHERS 

● Incomplete or unqualified applications will not be processed. 

●Scholarship winners who cannot register on time should inform us about the reasons in written form within 15 days before the admission date. 

●Scholarship will be canceled for those who do not register as requested without reason, drop out, or take schooling suspension during the study. 

●The degree scholarship holders are subject to annual academic performance review (Category 1, 2, 3). Only those who achieve outstanding records in academic and Chinese language proficiency are entitled to a full scholarship for the following year.
