On Aug 15, professor Zhu Jiangkang visited Lanzhou University (LZU) upon the invitation of School of Life Sciences (SLS), and Key Laboratory of Cell Activities and Stress Adaptation of Ministry of Education at LZU. Zhu is a senior principal investigator at the Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the academic director of CAS Center of Excellence in Plant Sciences. He is also an academician of American Academy of Sciences.
On the same day, Yan Chunhua, president of LZU and an academician of CAS, met with Zhu in the VIP Hall of the university’s Run Run Shaw Science Building. Also present were Xu Pengfei, professor and assistant to the president, and heads of SLS.
Yan welcomed Zhu’s visit and introduced the recent development of disciplines of LZU as well as the construction of Yuzhong Eco-Innovation City. He spoke highly of Zhu for contacting the People’s Government of Gansu Province to promote industries in Western China. He hoped that Zhu would facilitate the first-class discipline construction at LZU based on his own research.
Zhu hoped to strengthen collaboration with LZU in related disciplines and help promote the quinoa industry in Gansu Province by taking advantage of the university’s scientific research platforms.
After the meeting, Zhu delivered a lecture entitled “CRISPR Gene Editing Technology and Its Application” to teachers and students of SLS.
